5 Tips to Guarantee You SMASH Your Wedding Confetti Photos
Read on to find some tried and tested handy tips from a UK Wedding Photographer on how to make sure you achieve the very best confetti photos on your wedding day.
1. Don't be scared of it
This might sounds really silly, but those tiny little pieces of paper or dried petals aren't going to hurt you! So try not to flinch, scrunch up your face, close your eyes, or run like a bat out of hell through it!
Walk nice and slowly, hand in hand and enjoy yourselves. Another photographer told me he tells his couples this... "just treat it as the basis for your married life ahead. Go slowly, stay together and keep your eyes open". Love that.
2. More is More
Think you've bought enough confetti? Double it. I guarantee you cannot have too much confetti. Sometimes confetti can look quite small on a photo so the more you have of it - the better! I'll always encourage my couples guests to grab a really large handful and throw it up nice and high. So if you think you've got enough, go and buy some more. Maybe even a confetti canon... If you can't go big on your wedding well then when can you?!
Trust me!
3. Ditch the bags
The small individual bags are a great idea to ensure everyone gets some confetti - however, guests tend to 'pour' the confetti from the bag which doesn't look as good as being thrown up in the air. When it's thrown it will float down but when it's poured it tends to just fall in a clump.
Plus the bag doesn't look too great in the photos!
Get a couple of big baskets and get your guests to grab a large handful to throw.
4. Milk the CRAP out of it!
This will be your ONLY confetti line, so make sure to milk it!
Punch the air, give us a twirl, heck have a little snog half way down the line if you fancy!
Remember, YOU bring the vibe!!
5. Choose the right type
It's really important to speak with your church / ceremony venue to see if they allow confetti. Most places do these days as it's generally bio-degradable or dried flowers.
From experience, I find the paper confetti has a greater impact on your photos than the smaller dried petals as it's lighter and floats wonderfully! But if you're set on dried petals get the larger ones or lots of the smaller stuff!
I hope you have found this useful for thinking about your confetti photos. It's honestly one of my favourite moments to capture so I'm always so keen to let people know what to do to get the best for the shot. I remember ours, I couldn't help but cower from it, we didn't buy any so didn't have much and most of our guests had disappeared to the reception venue so I wish I had some of this advice back then!
I'd love to know if you'll be taking these wedding confetti tips on board.
Good luck!
